More work

So I finally finished the work I was doing with wire and knitting to show one of my ideas of how inner space is connected to what  is outside of it.
This piece below is made out of leftover pieces of silicone I saved from the bin. I was trying to create similarity with nerve connections and impulses going true them.
As I tried last time how drawing ink and marbling ink worked in resin, this time I experimented with actual pigments for working with resin. Effect is pretty cool but still not exactly what I was waiting for. Pretty though.

Some sketches of a idea I have to make a huge human wire shell installment with nerve connections running all true the body parts. Still thinking how to accomplish that.

Still not sure  where I am going with all this but it is fun to try new things. Working with knitted fabrics and looking at the knots gave me great ideas how they are like nerve connections and hormones inside us so I started working on that idea.
Started experimenting with drawing and marbling ink in water and on wet paper to see which one would give better effect. Dragging colored strings between 2 wet pieces of paper gave cool effects.
Drawing ink lets you kind of control the outcome more whereas marbling ink has life of it's own.

Also tried out how marbling ink and drawing ink react in resin. Well marbling ink just floats on top and can be wiped off entirely, whereas drawing ink leaves more interesting marks behind.

Some work from last week. Have been experimenting with wire to show whats going on in the space inside us. I am trying to show the connections.

Made wire frames representing persons and filled the space inside with wrapped wire. Next I mounted the frames to a board. To show their communal space I  started knitting randomly leaving some ends lose and some unraveling.

Another half useful day. The ideas seam to be stuck behind somewhere.
I have book at home called ''Knot sure'' by Margot Cullen that was an inspiration. It is about a Irish fashion designer Cyril Cullen. He was a brilliant self taught  knitwear and porcelain designer. I think it is not so easy to make knitted dress look elegant and sexy the same time but he seams to have done it over and over again.

Started working on my idea about people unraveling under the everyday problems but something is still pulling us together.

Found a tutorial on how to make knots (that's what knitting essentially is knots) on http://www.grit.com/Tools/Tie-the-10-Most-Useful-Knots.aspx
The loop drawn above is a reef(square) knot. Seams very symbolic

I tried knitting with wire as seen above and looked up designers who use it in their work.
Elizabeth Berrien is said to be godmother of contemporary wire sculpture movement.

Above are some tryouts of mine using different kind of wire.

 Stole my daughters knitting box.

Brilliant piece by Kitty Wales. Love the way she uses her materials.

Struggled the whole day yesterday and half of today trying to figure out where I am going with my brainstorming. Started to build an idea on body odors, chemicals in our bodies to whats under our skin. As we are constantly changing and braking down, unraveling I found myself looking at my sons old broken socks. Tugging and pulling some loose threads was fun. Lets see where it gets me.

I rememer promiceing my brother years ago that one day I will go and get higher education as well...well here I am. After 3 kids and loads of moving around I might just have found a place that will help me get where I want to be.
